of the 2015 Medway Barge Match.   He was on board sb Cambria, so there are some good shots of her deck, rigging, and so on, including a nice one of Skipper Ian at the wheel.   We like the music too!

Three great trailers for Simon North’s premiere of the Centaur film

We’ve already posted about the Film Premiere on Saturday 7th March at Maldon Town Hall.   What film?   The premiere of Simon North’s film of the Restoration of Centaur.   Scroll down the page to see the poster for the performance giving all details of the Premiere which is in aid of the Thames Sailing Barge Trust.

Now Simon has produced three trailers for the film show, and, having seen them, each of them is a beautiful piece of art in its own right.   Here are the three trailers, the first introducing the film:

the second when the Lottery grant was awarded:

and the third showing Tim Goldsack, the Master Shipwright, at work with tar and horse manure:

Now go along to Maldon Town Hall on 7th March and see the whole thing  –  Enjoy!

Centaur film show in Maldon on 7 March

Great opportunity to see the film of the Restoration of Centaur, and support the Thames Sailing Barge Trust’s work of maintaining its two barges, Centaur and Pudge.

Lighterman Tom

Mike Dawson contacted our Facebook page to let us see this lovely old British Pathe film of Robert Layton singing “Lighterman Tom” in 1933.    There are references to “Tilbury Town”, (of great interest to me), and shots of Thames barges on the river.   What a lovely old film!

New barge film project – about sb Victor

A new specially-produced video series has started on Shipping TV.   ????????????????????????????????????????Called “A year afloat with Victor”, it will follow sb Victor during 2015, which marks her 120th year.

The first part, filmed on 14th January 2015, has just been published.   It shows a trip for a group of RSPB birdwatchers who board at Harwich.

Here’s the link to Part 1.

Alex talks about his London River

The Visit London tourism site has a very nice film about the river, fronted by Alex Hickman who is a Thames Waterman and Lighterman now working as a Pier Controller for London River Services, part of Transport for London.

No mention of barges in particular, but a man with a real love of the river, its history and working on it today.

Bygones features Edith May

Annie Meadows, clever girl, has reminded us of this lovely programme, by the ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? old Anglia Television, called Bygones.   This edition features Hydrogen first, but then goes on to Edith May with some excellent footage from earlier days.   Here’s the link.
